Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 2026
Static collects as little data as technically possible. This policy explains what we do and do not collect across the Static application and the static.chat website.
What we don't collect
The Static application does not collect:
- Message content. Messages are end-to-end encrypted with MLS. We cannot read them.
- Identity information. No email, phone number, or real name is required or stored.
- IP addresses. Client connections are routed through relay nodes. The supernode does not log origin IP addresses.
- Usage analytics. The application does not contain telemetry, analytics SDKs, or tracking code.
- Cookies. The application does not use cookies.
What the supernode sees
When you use Static, messages pass through a supernode (relay server). The supernode can observe:
- Encrypted blobs (ciphertext it cannot decrypt)
- Community IDs (opaque identifiers, not human-readable names)
- Approximate connection times (when a client connects or disconnects)
The supernode cannot observe message content, channel names, member identities, file contents, or voice audio. If you self-host your supernode, you control even this minimal data.
What the website collects
The static.chat website collects:
- Cloudflare Web Analytics. Privacy-first analytics that use no cookies, collect no personally identifiable information, and provide aggregate-only traffic data (page views, referrers, countries). No individual visitor tracking.
- Email address (opt-in only). If you sign up for early access notifications, we store your email address to send you product updates.
Email policy
- Email addresses are stored in Cloudflare D1 (Cloudflare's serverless database).
- We will never sell, rent, or share your email address with third parties.
- You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the link in any email we send.
- Your email will be permanently deleted from our database upon request.
Third parties
The static.chat website uses the following third-party services:
- Cloudflare. Pages hosting, Web Analytics, and D1 database. Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
No other third-party services are used.
