Terms of Service
Last updated: February 2026
Static is open source software licensed under AGPL-3.0. By using Static or the static.chat website, you agree to the following terms.
Usage
You may use Static for any lawful purpose. You are responsible for your own conduct and any content you share through the platform. We do not monitor or moderate content — that responsibility belongs to community operators who run their own supernodes.
No warranty
Static is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We make no guarantees about availability, reliability, or fitness for a particular purpose. Use the software at your own risk.
Self-hosting
If you run a supernode, you are the operator of that instance. You are responsible for compliance with applicable laws in your jurisdiction, establishing and enforcing community guidelines, and maintaining the availability of your infrastructure. Static provides the software — you provide the governance.
Website
The static.chat website is provided for information, downloads, and documentation. We make reasonable efforts to keep content accurate but do not guarantee completeness or timeliness.
Email signup
By providing your email address through our signup form, you consent to receiving product update emails from Static. You can unsubscribe at any time. See our Privacy Policy for details on how we handle your email address.
Intellectual property
- Source code: Static source code is licensed under AGPL-3.0. You may use, modify, and distribute it under the terms of that license.
- Website content: Text, images, and other content on static.chat are licensed under CC BY 4.0.
Termination
We may discontinue the static.chat website, hosted relay services, or any other services at any time. Because Static is open source and self-hostable, discontinuation of our services does not prevent you from continuing to use the software.
